My Partner Mark’s two Nieces are 1. Graduating and 2. Getting married two weeks apart. So we decided to make it a road trip.

The first leg was today, Sacramento CA to Wendover UT. Eight hours through the high desert of Nevada. Going past towns like Winnimucca and Elko. The interests thing is there were four prisons along hwy 80. You knew from the signs saying; Prison Area, Hitchhiking Illegal.

The high desert, as high as 6000 feet is very barren. There is not much to see, except for the snow capped mountains in the distance. That was a beautiful dichotomy seeing the snow capped mountains and the desert. I guess it’s much like Palm Springs CA in that way.

As we passed these towns in the middle of nowhere and at least three hours from a big town I wondered about the people that live there. I thought of medical care access as I have Parkinson’s disease and I think about things like access to specialists.

We brought along our Dog Ari. She is a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. Ari is great in the car, she just sleeps mostly. In the hotel she is growling a lot because she hears people on the other side of the walls.

We will be going to Denver, Kansas City/Overland Park, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Ann Arbor, Chicago, and then back to KC for the wedding.

A few pics from day one:

  1. A monument to the first intercontinental telephone line

  2. A view of West Wendover on the Nevada Utah border
