Why I Am An Independent Voter

Many people express surprise when I tell them that I am no longer a member of the Democratic Party. I now consider myself an independent who mostly aligns with Democratic policies but feels increasingly alienated from the party’s current culture.

A troubling example of this shift emerged when Vice President Kamala Harris, during the vetting of Governor Josh Shapiro, reportedly asked him three separate times whether he was an agent of the Israeli government. Such a question is not merely inappropriate, it reflects a deeply unsettling undercurrent of antisemitism that has seeped into the mainstream of the Democratic Party.

This notion that American Jews possess “dual loyalties” is an old and insidious stereotype, unworthy of any leader who claims to champion equality and inclusion.

Jews are Americans. Our patriotism, civic duty, and moral conviction are rooted in the same democratic ideals that sustain this nation. To question that loyalty is to question our place in the American story, and that is simply unacceptable.
